BPC-157Limited human data
A 15-amino-acid peptide derived from a protein found in gastric juice. Most of the published research is laboratory and preclinical work on tendon, muscle and gut tissue.
Human studies
- Retrospective survey of 16 patients who had received knee injections: 14 reported relief of knee pain. There was no comparison group. Altern Ther Health Med 2021
- Pilot study in 12 women with interstitial cystitis: the authors reported symptom improvement in all 12 and no adverse events. There was no placebo group. Altern Ther Health Med 2024
- Systematic review (2025) of 36 studies: 35 were preclinical and 1 clinical. The reviewers found no clinical safety data and called for controlled human trials. HSS Journal 2025

- A 2025 pilot in 2 adults reported no changes in heart, liver, kidney, thyroid or glucose markers after intravenous infusion. Two people are far too few to establish safety. Altern Ther Health Med 2025

TB-500 / Thymosin β4Limited human data
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide based on the active region of thymosin β4, a natural 43-amino-acid protein involved in cell movement and tissue repair. The human trials below used full-length thymosin β4, not TB-500 itself.
Human studies
- Phase 1, 40 healthy volunteers, intravenous thymosin β4: researchers reported infrequent, mild-to-moderate adverse events and no dose-limiting toxicity. Ann N Y Acad Sci 2010
- Phase 2, 73 patients with venous leg ulcers, topical gel: about 25% reached complete healing within 3 months, with a safety profile comparable to placebo. Ann N Y Acad Sci 2010
- Eye-drop trials (RGN-259) in dry eye and neurotrophic keratopathy: in the keratopathy trial, 6 of 10 treated patients healed completely at 4 weeks against 1 of 8 on placebo. Int J Mol Sci 2022
